Greek Art

Greece is a well-known country for thousands of ages ago. Greek is playing a pivotal role which they had made a big impact on their own unique culture and art such as paintings and sculpture that has passed down to modern centuries. These two characteristics have inherited by modern people and enlighten modern artists on fashion stylist and the sculptures can convey a message to more people about interesting knowledge in sculpture history.

Greek Mosaics
Alexander Mosaic
The most well-known mosaic battle scene from ancient Greece history is Alexander Mosaic. The mosaic delineates the fight between Alexander the Great and Darius lll of Persia that occurred in 333 B.C. The mosaic was made from more than one million and a half pieces of stone and glass. In Addition, this mosaic was painted on a wall during the Hellenistic period. Moreover, the mosaic is around 8 feet 11 inches high and 16 feet 9 inches long and it was discovered in the House of Faun in Pompeii which was preserved in ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Furthermore, the Alexander Mosaic is a Roman floor mosaic that dates from 100 B.C.what's more, it is believed to be founded on a greek painting from 315 B.C. In conclusion, the existence of Alexander Mosaic had made an impact on the Roman art style and culture. This had proved that Greece and Roman have a civilization connection.




Stag Hunt Mosaic
In the transition to the Hellenistic Period, the Greece Macedonian leader was Alexander the Great. Imaginatively, he combined the two styles together to make a complementary technique in making the houses of the town, Pella, the capital of Macedonia. A standout amongst the most astounding mosaics of creatures in the House of the Abduction of Helen is the Stag Hunt Mosaics, which signed by the Ancient Greek Artist Gnosis. The emblem is bordered with a complex floral pattern, and itself is decorated with the stylized portrayal. The mosaic is a pebble mosaic and was made out of pebble stone. At the right side of the Stag Hunt Mosaic, the figure is possibly Alexander the Great. The figure to the left wields a double-headed axe is referring to Hephaistos. Furthermore, the dog illustrate is representing Peritas accompanying Alexander. The stag and hound are referring to the myth Artemis transforms the huntsman Actaeon become a stag when Actaeon tries to rape Artemis after he saw Artemis naked. When Actaeon transformed into a stag his own dogs turn on him and he is destroryed. The theme of Abduction has a similar concept to another mosaic in the same house,which is the Persians will be overthrown by Alexander The Great. Alexander will take vengeance towards the Persians for destroying the Athens and temples such as Parthenon, this will represent the theme"Hunter being Hunted".In Conclusion, The concept of the Stag Hunt Mosaic has a similar connection with Alexander Mosaic.

Greek Sculpture
Greek has learned about sculpture knowledge from the inspiration of Egyptian from 800 to 300 BCE and Near Eastern monumental art, what's more, over hundreds of years it has advanced into a remarkable vision of the art form. First of all, there are three major periods for Greek sculpture which is the Archaic period, Classical period and Hellenistic period, Greek artist would achieve a pinnacle of aesthetic greatness which captured the human form in a way never seen before which was much duplicated. In addition, the mainly material form making greek sculpture is bronze and porous limestone.Furthermore,Greek sculptors mainly concerned with propotion, composure and the idealised flawlessness of the human body, what's more, their figures in stone and bronze have turned into the most discernible pieces of art ever produced by any civilization.

The Moschophoros,c. 570 BCE,Athens,Acropolis

Moschophoros, A man carrying a calf for sacrifice which means "the calf-bearer" was found in fragments in the Perserchutt in the Acropolis of Athens. The sculpture were made with marble. Initially, the statue is evaluated to have 1.65 meters (5.4ft) in height. As indicated by an engraving on its base, the statue was a consecrated offering to the goddess Athena by a certain Rhonbos(the name stated is not entirely legible) and it is thought to represent Rhonbos himself, bringing a sacrifice. Moschoporos is a typical Archaic sculpture, static, naked with a smiling face. sacrifice.



The Artemisian Bronze,c. 460 BCE,Athens
The Artemisian Bronze represents either Zeus, the ancient Greek King of the gods of Mount Olympus or maybe Poseidon, the God of the Sea. This figure is more than 2 m in height and this figure is made with bronze. This unique ancient Greek bronze sculpture was found by a fisherman and was recovered from the sea off Cape Artemision, Greece. This sculpture was created in the early classical period of 460 BC, this masterpiece is the incarnation of beauty, control and strength.
